How to Connect your domain to your hosting using cPanel

Hey everyone! Welcome back to the website! In today’s tutrial, I’m going to walk you through the step-by-step process of transferring your domain from your current domain provider by updating the Nameservers, and then I’ll show you how to add that domain to your hosting provider using CPanel.

Connecting a domain

If you have purchased your domain separately from a domain registrar company and the hosting package from a different hosting provider, then this video is for you. If you wondered how to con- nect your domain to your hosting, I’ve got you covered! In this video I will be using Godaddy.com as the domain registrar and HostArmada.com as the hosting provider. Probably two of the best companies in their field at the moment. If you want to check them out I will leave links in the description. y the end of this video, you’ll have your domain fully transferred and ready to go, so let’s dive right in!

How to connect your domain with your hosting that uses cPanel software:

01 Click “Manage All”

Login to your Godaddy account or your domain registrar and access the domain management section.

02 Click “Details” icon

Go to the domain you want to get connected to your hosting account and click on the details section.

03 Click “Edit nameservers”

Access the nameserver editing feature.

04 Click “I’ll use my own nameservers”

Choose the option to add your own nameservers.

05 What are nameservers?

You will see two fields where you can enter custom nameservers. Nameservers are like the internet’s GPS, but instead of giving you directions to the nearest pizza place, they tell your browser where to find Google.com. Think of them as the internet’s switchboard operators, connecting your request to the right address so you don’t have to remember a bunch of confusing numbers. Without nameservers, we’d all be trying to remember IP addresses like we’re memorizing phone numbers in the ‘0s—nobody wants that!

06 Switch to hosting provider

Now you have to find the nameservers of your hosting provider. So login to the hosting provider account.

07 My Services section

Look for an option where you can see your hosting services.

08 Click “Details”

Select or open the details of the hosting service.

09 Copy first nameserverExample: name.server.com

Look for the nameservers address list. In most cases there are two addresses. Copy the first one. It will be with a similar structure: name.server.com. Then go back to your domain registrar page.

10 Paste “Nameserver 1”

Paste the nameserver into the first field.

11 Copy second nameserver

Go back to your hosting an copy the second nameserver address.

12 Paste “Nameserver 2”

Return to your domain and paste the second nameserver address.

13 Click “Save”

When you are done, click the “Save” button.

14 Click “Continue”

Confirm that you agree to use custom nameservers.

15 Switch to your hosting account

Now we need to create your domain in the hosting account.

16 Click cPanel

Login to your cPanel.

17 Search for “Domains”

In the cPanel dashboard search for “Domains”.

18 Click “Domains”

Select the option for creating and managing domains.

19 Click “Create A New Domain”

Initiate the process of creating a new domain.

20 Enter the domain name

In the domain field enter the domain name you just entered custom nameservers for.

21 Unmark this checkbox

If you want to create a custom folder on the server where all your website files will be stored, you hate to unmark the “Share document root” checkbox and enter a new folder name. I advise you to   do that, because otherwise all your files will be stored in the same folder and if you have multiple domains and websites it will create a huge mess.

22 Fill in the domain folder address and leave the subdomain field unchanged

Enter the new folder name. You can also specify a location of that folder on your server by using the back slash symbol. For example: /home/publichtml/domainname.com. Leave the subdomain field unchanged.

23 Click “Submit”

Click “Submit” when ready.

25 Check out the new domain

Your domain will appear in your domains list and ready to be used. Please note that when you change nameservers, it’s like sending out a new address to the entire internet—but it takes a while   for everyone to get the memo. This process, called propagation, can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours. So if your domain does not work right away, please be patient.
